Emma Jacks is busy. She has to deal with all the dramas of primary school as well as saving the world as undercover SHINE secret agent EJ12.

The original concept creator of the popular Go Girl! and Zac Power series introduces an exciting new heroine for younger girls in the newly released EJ12 Girl Hero series. The first two titles in the series were released by Scholastic in February 2010, with an additional two books released in April 2010 and further books planned for the future.

Meet Emma Jacks – EJ12 Girl Hero

Emma Jacks has all the fun and worries of most primary school girls with a mother who won’t let her have a pet puppy, two great BFFs, homework assignments, party invitations and a mean girl in her class making everyone unhappy.

Emma also has a hidden life as a secret agent for SHINE. As Special Agent EJ12 she cracks codes, foils evil plans and goes on adventures all over the world. SHINE is a top secret organisation with a team of talented and brave agents working together to defeat the plans of the evil agency SHADOW.

Emma was invited to join SHINE because of her code breaking skills. Her missions often involve the decoding of secret messages and SHADOW codes with readers given the chance to solve the codes and clues along with EJ12. Each book cover also contains a secret message written in the code used within the story. For the first four books these include mirror writing, alpha-numeric codes, Braille, and mobile phone number codes.

The vocabulary is suitable for confident young readers.

EJ12 Girl Hero Series

The first four titles in the EJ12 series include:

  • EJ12 Girl Hero #1: Hot & Cold
  • EJ12 Girl Hero #2: Jump Start
  • EJ12 Girl Hero #3: In the Dark
  • EJ12 Girl Hero #4: Rocky Road

While Emma’s adventures as EJ12 will entertain readers, the stories also deal with issues that girls may be dealing with in their everyday lives such as bullies, low self-confidence, as well as issues with friendships and family.

The stories contain a very strong, positive message about the importance of good friendships and the need to be part of a caring, supportive group of people. These more serious messages are well balanced with a fascinating range of spy gadgets, secret tunnels, super-spy communication devices and a fun, adventurous and humorous storyline.

The EJ12 Girl Hero website offers fans of the stories an opportunity to play games related to EJ12’s missions, read sample chapters, enter competitions, get information about their favourite characters and gadgets and use a code talker to translate their messages into a secret code.

Fun Spy Adventure Stories for Girls Aged 8+

EJ12/Emma Jacks seems likely to develop the same enthusiastic following as Zac Power with

a combination of fun adventures, humour, spy gadgets and everyday school and family dramas. The EJ12 Girl Hero series is likely to appeal to primary school-aged girls aged 8+ looking for an alternative to the Rainbow Magic and Magic Ballerina style stories.
